With Open Source VMukti project our main aim is to develop an architecture where people from all over the world can participate and collaborate in the journey of VMukti. This will help VMukti to enhance its quality, usability and development pathway; and to know what features the world needs. Development and features of VMukti are not decided by few project managers but by community who uses it. We at VMukti always believed in the fact that there is always a better way to build an application, now that belief has got more strong. The proprietary software products FAQ are always concerned about increasing their customer base and popularity, spend a large part of their revenues convincing customers to buy their products and a small part of revenues are used to make a better product. We thought lets follow a different philosophy here. Why not we develop our product in public and distribute it through an open source license? VMukti is available free for use and evaluation. If user agrees to have some advanced functionality, professional support and product extensions, they can contact VMukti team for a commercial relationship. Following a Commercial Open Source model trim down the costly and time-consuming traditional enterprise sales cycle which let us concentrate more on the functionality and innovation of the product. It also helps us to have more successful deployments and maintain a healthier relationship with our customers. The commercial open source model requires a product that speaks for itself, which means having a fast, intuitive application that is easy to learn, use and extend. What if a real estate agent sold you a house under the condition that you had to arrange the furniture in a certain way or the house would fall apart? Or what if a car salesman sold you a car that you were only allowed to drive on certain roads or the car would fail? Sounds crazy? Artificial constraints are always imparted by enterprise software vendors on customers. Restrictions like you can deploy it on demand but has to work through our narrow, proprietary interfaces. Or you can buy the software but can install it on only specified number of machines or can install on-premise running on this type of server and operating system. These constraints are designed to benefit the vendor, not the customer. The more constraints they put, the more locked-in the customer become. VMukti’s complete focus is on placing the users and customers in control by abolishing the artificial restrictions imposed by vendors. Deploy VMukti On-Demand or On-Site. Use VMukti Open Source Edition for free or pay for the commercial editions. Create modules that can be collaborative or non-collaborative. With commercial open source, users are in charge. An open source product speaks for itself, if a product is strong and meets a need; an open source license allows the product to reach to a larger community. VMukti Open source expands its markets and allows the innovative ideas to come in. It gives you full control and frees you from vendor lock-in. That is why, in just 1 ½ years, VMukti Open Source has been downloaded over 80,000 times. Links: 1. Demo
